EFST-Y Training
A two-day, experiential live training that teaches teaching clinicians to use the EFST-Y model in direct work with children, adolescents, and young adults.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS TRAINING
This training is designed for professionals working with children, adolescents, and young adults, including:
- Psychotherapists
- Social workers
- Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
- Counsellors
- Allied mental health and healthcare professionals
EFST-Y is particularly well suited for clinicians who:
- Work with youth experiencing high emotional distress, complexity, or “resistance”
- Want developmentally attuned, experiential tools that actively engage youth
- Value attachment-based, emotion-focused, and humanistic approaches
- Are looking to move beyond purely cognitive or behaviourally driven models
- Want to foster youth autonomy, emotional agency, and self-directed change
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Participants receive a comprehensive introduction to the EFST-Y model along with practical, immediately applicable tools. Core training areas include:
- Emotion & Emotional Education: — Understanding emotion through an EFST® lens, including validation, emotional awareness, and self-efficacy.
- Working with Motivation — : Identifying and working with competing motivations; reframing resistance and avoidance as meaningful and protective.
- Key EFST-Y Constructs: — Brain Boss, The Vault, magnets and triggers, boundaries, and the maladaptive navigational system.
- Experiential Tools & Interventions: — PECCS, chair work, discrepancy tasks, and metaphor-based interventions such as The Canoe, The Tangle, The Water Bottle, and The Football Field.
- Working with Shame & Self-Criticism: — Supporting youth in developing self-compassion and a more coherent internal narrative.
- Assessment & Case Conceptualization: — Using EFST-Y constructs to understand and map emotional and relational processes.
- Family Therapy Integration: — Combining EFST-Y with EFST-P principles to support parent–youth work and relational repair.
- Application Across Settings: — Integrating EFST-Y into individual, family, and group therapy contexts.
Participants engage in breakout practice sessions throughout both days to support immediate application and skill development.
